Patong Holiday Apartment FAQs

Nearly all have a shared pool, and most of the buildings have a gym too. Each listing states what its building has, and you can filter for either.

A private pool is rare in a Patong apartment โ€” if that is what you are after, look at the villas instead.

From many of them, yes. The middle of Patong is flat and compact โ€” the beach road, Jungceylon, Banzaan market and Bangla Road are all a few minutes apart on foot.

Buildings further back towards the hills are a short ride instead, and each listing says where it sits.

Some do, and the listing says so where it applies โ€” it is one of the search filters on this page.

Worth knowing that a sea view in Patong usually means a higher floor looking out over the bay, rather than a room opening onto the sand.

Some have one in the unit and the listing states it โ€” use the Private Washing Machine filter if it matters to you.

Many buildings have a shared laundry instead, and there are laundry shops all over Patong that turn a bag around the same day.

It is cleaned daily and the sand is in better shape than its reputation suggests. It is a busy town beach of about three kilometres, so it is at its best early in the morning.

During the monsoon months the sea pushes debris ashore after a storm. For properly clear water, Freedom Beach is a short longtail ride around the headland.

Karon is about 5 km south over the headland and Kata about 9 km, so roughly ten and twenty minutes by road depending on the traffic.

Kamala is about 9.5 km north, and Phuket Town about 15 km east, half an hour over the hill.

Usually, yes. Everything is in one place โ€” the longest beach on this coast, the widest choice of food, the main shopping centres, and the boats out to Phi Phi and the Similans.

It is also the loudest part of the island. For the convenience without the noise, look at buildings a few streets back from Bangla Road, or up at the northern end towards Kalim.

More than people expect. Jungceylon and Central Patong cover the shopping and the cinemas, Banzaan Fresh Market behind Jungceylon is worth an hour on its own, and Simon Cabaret has been staging its shows here for decades.

Malin Plaza at the southern end turns into a street-food market after dark, and boats leave daily for Phi Phi, Coral Island and โ€” in season โ€” the Similans.

Phuket International Airport is about 34 km north and the drive takes 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Fixed-price limousines and metered taxis are at the arrivals desks, and the Phuket Smart Bus is the cheap option at around an hour and a half.

Patong, in facts

Getting there, getting around, the beach and what is near it.

Getting to Patong

Patong sits on the west coast, over the hill from Phuket Town.

From Phuket International Airport34 km ยท 45โ€“60 min
Airport taxi, typical fare700โ€“900 เธฟ
Phuket Smart Bus~1 hr 30 min
Phuket Town15 km ยท ~30 min

Grab works reliably in Patong, so you do not have to negotiate a fare at the roadside.

Getting around

The centre is flat and walkable. The hills either side of it are not.

Beach road, Jungceylon, Banglaon foot
Karon, the next bay south~5 km
Kata~9 km
Kamala, north9.5 km ยท 15โ€“20 min

Hillside villas sit well above the bay, so check the listing map โ€” on those roads a car is far more use than a scooter.

The beach

Three kilometres of sand, the longest on this coast โ€” a town beach, not a quiet one.

Calm, clear waterNov โ€“ Apr
Swell and rip currentsMay โ€“ Oct
Lifeguards on patrol~8am โ€“ 6pm
Quietest on the sandbefore 9am
A red flag flying means do not swim. Patongโ€™s bay funnels rip currents into narrow channels you cannot see from the sand.

What is nearby

Almost everything is walkable, and the rest is within half an hour.

Jungceylon & Central Patongin the centre
Banzaan Fresh Marketbehind Jungceylon
Bangla Road2 min from the beach
Malin Plaza night marketsouth end
Freedom Beach~2 km by longtail

Eating spreads out from the beach road. Baan Rim Pa has been on the cliff at Kalim for more than twenty-five years; No.ย 6 and Kaab Gluay are long-standing Thai favourites; Simon Cabaret has staged its shows here for decades.
